This specification, Free Functional Skills English Entry 1, Entry 2, Entry3, Level 1, and Level 2, gives students practical skills for the modern world and helps them get the most from life, learning, and work.

This specification aims to ensure students have good communication skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. It assesses whether students can use these skills in everyday situations.

Often a student’s first accredited qualification in English, this course can be used in preparation for GCSE. It is suitable for a wide ability range and is used by many schools as a replacement for SATs.

There are no prior learning requirements for this pass/fail qualification.

HOW TO ENROLL IN THE FREE FUNCTIONAL SKILLS ENGLISH COURSES:

All students will be required to complete an Initial English and Mathematics assessment. The assessment will determine your appropriate level of study (beginner up to advance level).

Test of Functional Skills English:

Free Functional Skills English test is divided into 4 parts:

– Oral comprehension / speaking = 30 mins:
The candidates answer questions while they are listening and they have to give their opinion on a particular subject and explain it.

– Written comprehension = 1 hour:
People in the test have to give answers according to a few texts (usually 3).

– Written expression = 1 hour:
People in the test have to justify their opinion on a specific topic with an essay (usually 3).

Start date and end date for the period of September 2021 to June 2022.

Period of September. Starts from 31-08-2021 to 24-09-2021. (Closed)

Period of October. Starts from 04-10-2021 to 29-10-2021. (Closed)

Period of November. Starts from 01-11-2021 to 26-11-2021. (Face to face and Online) day and evening classes.

Period of December. Starts from 29-11-2021 to 17-12-2021.  (Face to face and Online) day and evening classes.

Period of January. Starts from 03-01-2022 to 28-01-2022. (Face to face and Online) day and evening classes.

Period of February. Starts from 31-01-2022 to 25-02-2022. (Face to face and Online) day and evening classes.

Period of March. Starts from 28-02-2022 to 25-03-2022. (Face to face and Online) day and evening classes.

Period of April. Starts from 04-04-2022 to 29-04-2022. (Face to face and Online) day and evening classes.

Period of May. Starts from 03-05-2022 to 27-05-2022. (Face to face and Online) day and evening classes.

Period of June. Starts from 30-05-2022 to 24-06-2022.  (Face to face and Online) day and evening classes.

Course time:

Monday to Friday from 10 am to 12 pm Face to face classes / 12:15 pm to 2:15 pm Online classes.
Course length: 4 weeks
Class size: Max 20 (average class size 7-12)
Minimum age: 18

Evening Classes

From the 2nd of August evening classes are available on Wednesday and Thursday from 6 pm to 8 pm for only £50.

Fees and Result of Functional Skills English: :

Other Option

Free Exams are also available and they are funded by the government, however, eligibility needs to be checked such as Postcode, Employment, and National Insurance Number (more information at the college).

Each part is graduated upon points, and the final result is on percentage. You need to get 65 % to pass.
