The Diploma in Education and Training – DET was an initial teacher training qualification, studied at QCF Level 5, for teaching in Further Education (FE) and the lifelong learning sector of education in the United Kingdom. The Diploma in Education and Training – DET was the highest of the teaching qualifications specifically for this sector of education.
The DET qualifies you for Qualified Teacher, Learning and Skills (QTLS) status.
The DET is for anyone working or planning to become a full teacher in further, adult, or continuing education. You should have level 3 and level 4 skills in the subject you intend to teach, though the qualification is optional. You will need to have access to 100 hours of teaching practice and 100 hours of observation in a recognised lifelong learning location to earn a diploma.
The DET was phased out along with the Award in Education and training – AET Level 3 and the Certificate in Education and training – CET Level 4.
